Nov 11, 2013 8 Questions With: Dante Zaballa
I posted on Dante several weeks ago on his creatively developed collaborative project, titled The Doodle Project, where he brought together 62 illustrators and 14 musicians from all over the world to play a small role in this piece. I had never really seen this type of project done before and just thought it was so fascinating that I had to reach out to him personally and get to know him a little bit better. Dante was kind enough to share a bit of his life and his artwork with us through our 8 Questions series. Enjoy!
1) What Are you working on?
I´m about to finish the Big Bang Dog. It´s the animated short I´m working on with Matias Vigliano. It took us more than 2 years of production. We put a lot of time and effort developing a nonsense story which we hope no one understands what it means.
2) Where do you find inspiration?
Juice? Watching movies. When I travel I smile pretty much a lot. Music is also good medicine.
3) As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?
Good Question! Hum…first I wanted to be an inventor, but I couldn’t find anything to invent.
I thought it would be nice to be some kind of dancer because my mum said it was the only way I could experience something like flying. She meant jumping really high. It´s kinda cute, I really thought I would fly.
This is great, later on I thought I could be a cop (unbelievable) because I really liked this animated show called ¨Police Academy,” but very fortunately my grandfather gave me a ground breaking talk about the real risks of that profession.
One day I told my mum I didn´t want to grow up because adults don´t play with anything anymore. But she said they actually do. And she made her point when I saw the ¨toasty” – that nerdy inside-joke that appears while playing Mortal Kombat 2.I definitely wanted to do videogames. I guess I was about 10.
I think that was the last time I thought about a profession. Anyway I never did any of those. Thanks for making me dive into emotional memories. (sniff!)
4) What are you reading at the moment?
¨The Art of Thinking,¨ by Ernest Dimnet, and still trying to finish Julio Verne´s ¨From the Earth to The Moon¨. I´m kinda switching between those two the whole time.
5) How would you describe your job?
The obsessed, painful and uncomfortable study about moving things.
6) What does your work day look like?
One pair of human beings with back problems dreaming of having a life full of excitement and joy.
7) What’s your favorite post work destination?
The ¨Once Station¨, to take the Sarmiento Train to Moron city. Then planking on my bed.
8) If you could give some advice to your teenage self, what would it be?
Don’t worry buddy, it´s alright here. Just take care of your eye view. Animation will take you to the geek side of life.
