Jul 17, 2015 The Woodblock is Hot
Just when I thought every conceivable flip of Star Wars-related art had already been done a million times over, the good people at Hypebeast come along and share one more effort in this space, and it’s just great. These are not the result of the latest version of Illustrator, but rather, the efforts of true traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock print artists. Their process, which dates back to the 17th century, begins with hand-carving the woodblock, then they apply ink to those to create the final prints. Each of these graphics will be about $400 and will be limited to 200 copies. Find more info (in Japanese) and some great process shots on the Makuake crowd-funding site.
