Rembrandt is turning in his grave right now. Like cloning a baby… science and technology has stepped into some uncharted territory. A team of developers technically backed by Microsoft has created a “new” Rembrandt painting. Using an algorithm, they scanned multiple paintings of his, analyzing it down to the pixels and determined what kind of subject he preferred. Then, they processed the strokes and characteristics of his paintings and proceeded to create a high quality rendering of what they believe is a painting in the vein of Rembrandt. The resulting painting below.
So is this authentically considered creating works of art inspired by the masters? There is definitely an argument here that I don’t believe anyone has touched upon. But I guess we can enjoy a new piece that is almost as good as a Rembrandt. You can check out more on this new work of art at NextRembrandt.com
