Aug 02, 2012 Leap Motion : minority report technology?
If you’ve ever seen Minority Report then you most certainly appreciated the scene with the futuristic looking, gesture controlled computer scene. Yeah, this one – The oh so very cool scene where Tom Cruise works his magic on one gnarly interactive UI setup, albeit with some old school data transferring solutions. I think its safe to say that everyone was just as amazed as I was when I first watched that scene. We knew a day would come when that technology would actually be available, but we never really knew when that would happen and could only dream of the day it was created. Well, dream no further, as today (really as in today from a few months ago) is your lucky day as the foundation of that technology has finally arrived — and no, Kinect does not count…
Let me introduce to you the Leap Motion – a $70 gesture controlled system that can be plugged into any computer and let you do your best Tom Cruise, or shall I say Chief John Anderton, impression. The little gadget works incredibly intuitively and is expected to launch early next year.
We’re starting to see that the boundaries of a truly (digitally) interactive reality are being pushed to the max and I absolutely love it. This is only the beginning but just imagine what life would be like if Google Glasses was able to incorporate Leap Motion into their technology. See the big picture now?
