Are you familiar with the Tumblr? I know I wasn’t until quite recently. I mean I was aware of it, sure, but I didn’t explore it. About six months back, my talented and knowledgeable friend Benjie Escobar said that there was a large number of youngsters out there, whose online activity took place entirely within the confines of the Tumblr-verse. As Facebook is infiltrated by their parents, it seems, the youngsters are leaving in droves. This got me thinking; I probably ought to familiarize myself with the platform if it’s really that crucial to so many people. What I’ve learned over the last few months of Tumblr investigating is that A) there’s an overwhelmingly endless amount of content to sift through (if you’ve got the time and energy) and B) the entire platform is geared towards virality, thanks to their rather original “reblog” approach, which (much like relative newcomer Pinterest) allows you to paste anything you like on to your own Tumblr page. I’ve found that there is an active audience out there, looking for more content, and it seems relatively easy to build a following (compared to say Facebook or Twitter, at any rate). They recently made the news when Yahoo acquired them, largely for this active base of young users.
