As someone who is not overly fond of golf (yeah, I said it) and also someone who is constantly worried about the drought here and global warming in general, this news story from Japan really appealed to me. In short, Japanese mega corporation Kyocera recently announced plans to convert an abandoned golf course near Kyoto into a 23 megawatt solar power plant. The story has caught the attention of FastCo.Exist and I’m honestly hoping this trend catches on here in SoCal sooner than later. Seems like it kills several birds with one solar initiative if you ask me – no need to waste water on those manicured lawns when they’ve been converted into eco-friendly power sources!
