How I found out about David Bowie and his music was quite organic. I would pop in VHS skateboarding videos and watch skaters skate fluidly to his songs. The most memorable skate part to me was Arto Saari’s double feature in “Sorry” where he used two of Bowie’s hits “1984” and “Rock n’ Roll Suicide”. I thought Bowie’s music fit so well with Saari’s style of skating, both legends in their own creative field. Some other memorable skate parts were “Fame” in Chocolate’s Montage in “Yeah Right!”, Bryan Herman skating to “The Width Of A Circle” in “Baker 3”, Marc Johnson’s skating to “Five Years” in his “Pretty Sweet” part, Willy Santos skating to “Rebel Rebel” in his Union Wheels part, and Jeremy Klein and Heath Kirchart skating to “Under Pressure” in “The End”. Even though Bowie’s death is utterly heartbreaking, he will live on through his music and continue to influence generations to come.
