Jun 17, 2016 Imprint Picks: Rebel Music by Kate Simon
Kate Simon is best known for shooting the image of Paul Simonon smashing his bass on the cover of The Clash’s London Calling. What an incredible image on an essential double album. But her 2004 collection from Genesis Publications, which was limited to 2,000 signed copies and came packaged in a wooden box, is remarkable and important, too. It features over 400 photos taken when Marley, Wailer, Tosh, Perry, Barrett, and others were out of their minds making brand new music with a message of One Love. Clash fans will appreciate contributions from the likes of Simonon, Strummer, and Letts, too. When it was published, Rebel Music was easily the most expensive book I had ever bought. In retrospect, a bargain.
