Jul 18, 2011 Oldie but Goodie: Scott Belsky on How to Avoid Getting Stuck.
It just hit me like a ton of bricks after having heard the 99% method a couple times and listening to Paula Scher’s talk on “Serious Play” for the umpteenth time.
Belsky and Scher are saying the same exact thing but coming to exact opposite conclusions, and yet yield the same actual results.
Belsky and Scher both agree there is a charm to ideating and experimenting with projects. Both agree after a while it becomes tedious. Both agree you’re going to start ideating and experimenting again, but Belsky believes this is when it’s most important to follow through on your original idea to see it to its finish. Scher will finish the project almost begrudgingly and live in the purgatory of auto-filling content until the next idea begins to excite her.
