Aug 02, 2013 Paid Lacoste to be le Boss
As a youngster, growing up in Sydney, I remember eagerly awaiting the next episode of Astro Boy, ever ready to watch my favorite flying robot dish out mechanical beat-downs to unruly giants and other ill-mannered trouble-makers. Of course, at the time, I had no idea it was originally called Mighty Atom, I’d never heard of Anime, much less Osamu Tezuka – the famous Japanese auteur manga artist often referred to as Japan’s answer to Walt Disney. I’m not sure that’s a fair comparison, but either way, I was pleasantly surprised to see that French fashion label Lacoste have teamed up with Tezuka Productions (who handle the Tezuka legacy) to create a capsule collection of collaborative gear including some eye-catching variations on the green crocodile’s signature polo shirts. I must say, if the “double-label” was born in Japan, then the fashion label/animator collab was born in streetwear. And if this sort of project between a top French label and a top Japanese artist is the outcome of all that, then I think we’ve all won, somehow. I’m usually somewhat anti-polo shirt, but for these, I’ll make an exception. More info in Italiano, if that’s your sort of thing.
