Jan 16, 2015 Prosperity Gospel
Accomplished skate shoe designer Paul Kwon spoke at our Long Beach-centric ICL 2013 event, alongside fellow LB skate luminaries Chad Tim Tim, Justin Reynolds, and Ricki Bedenbaugh. Around that time, Martin Wong told me that Paul is also a talented musician. I’ve been lucky enough to bump into Paul a few times since, including at some of the Save Music In Chinatown events organized by Martin and his wife Wendy Lau. I recently saw that he has released his debut EP, Prosperity Gospel, and I really like it. I’m no music critic, so allow me to quote the description: “Aposel Paul is a solo project written by Paul Kwon. Recorded in the Spring of 2014, the debut EP Prosperity Gospel features contributions by the following musicians: Paul Kwon, Tess Shapiro, Brian Andrews, Ray Barbee, Derek Poulsen and Nate Burkhardt. This album is dedicated to anyone that has had life come along and knock the wind out of them. It is a collection of hymns intended to encourage and hopefully help lift the burdens of a heavy heart.” It was recorded at Sanctus Sound and the artwork is by Darren Inouye. Check it out, you can stream it on Paul’s Bandcamp Page and/or buy the digital files. Stay tuned for the EP to appear on more formats!
