Jan 07, 2015 Tech Spectrum
It’s that crazy tech show in vegas time again. CES is ramping up and tech news is oozing all over my screen from every orifice of the net. From wearables to drones and basically anything that’s apart of the “Internet of things”. But two items have stuck out in my perusing, and both have had a predecessor that has been integral in my life. It just so happens these items cost have dramatically gone in opposite directions, opposite ends of the tech spectrum.
Nokia 215 $29
Back in the year 2000… I had the Nokia 8200 series phone, and the various “candybar” phones that came after, They were small and simple. While others were getting the sidekicks and RAZRs I was getting the next Nokia iteration. On occasion I think about just ditching the idevice and going back to the simple times. Nokia has announced the 215 which still allows for online access but is a much more scaled down version of what we have today that we consider a smart phone. And now in 2015 the Nokia 215 will be available for only $29 a far cry from the $100 you may have spent 15yrs ago.
Sony Walkman ZX2 $1200
So Sony announced a new Walkman… I’m sure we all have had one in our lives. The ability to take music where ever you want to go. But then music turned in to digital files and we all ended up with an iPod, and now we can carry music on our cellphones or just stream it when we want. So now Sony’s got a new Walkman, and what exactly are they dishing? Well it plays any file under the sun and very Hi-Quality. And so we’d expect that this item would be cheaper or a bit closer to what the iPod was. Well it’s well on the other end of the spectrum at $1200. If you’ve got the funds and are wondering what’s the big deal? check out the video.
