Feb 14, 2014 Torafu Architects
We’ve been keeping our eye on the impressive work of Architecture For Dogs contributing architects, Torafu Architects. The Tokyo-based firm was founded in 2004 by Koichi Suzuno and Shinya Kamuro and they actually produce an incredibly wide range of design work including architectural design, interior design, graphic design, art installations, film making and product design too.
A full portfolio of their work can be found on their site. In 2013, they received critical acclaim internationally for their interactive Haunted House as part of the “GHOSTS, UNDERPANTS and STARS” exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. The creepy art installation was designed to be played in and around with and allowed visitors to interact with one another too.
More recently, a collaboration with Japanese furniture maker, Hida Sangyo, resulted beautiful small-scale Cobrina furniture series which has been a big hit with the global design community. Not just pretty to look at, these pieces were intentionally designed to be small, allowing limited space to be used more effectively.
The duo have just concluded a comprehensive and interactive exhibition of their work which was held at Creation Gallery G8 in Tokyo. It’s easy to see that Torafu are a creative powerhouse, not boxed in by any particular field or medium, and it’s exciting to think about what they’ll come up with next.
